For the month of May 2009, Bibliophiles Anonymous will be reading Ghost World by Daniel Clowes.
The last meeting of the semester, 5/12/09 12:30 pm in 1307, we will be watching the video adaptation and discussing it.

February 3rd Meeting...

Our first meeting this semester had the most members we've ever had!
It was very exciting.

We discussed The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

And decided that the next book we'll be reading is...

Funny in Farsi by Firoozeh Dumas

This can be found in your local bookstore, borrowed from the library, or borrowed from any member who has it.

The goal is to be half way by our next meeting--February 17 from 1-2 pm in the video conference room in the library.

Next Semester...

So, once again, Bibliophiles Anonymous is being ambitious. But that's how we became a club in the first place, so it works...
We're trying to plan an event for next semester. And we totally want to call it "Geek Week" (because geek is the new cool...).
Anyway, we want to have a book drive and a bunch of little activities (that are reading related, of course!) all week (whenever this week is...) and then end it with something awesome--a band about books!
Your president, that'd be me, has been in contact with a "wizard rock band" and we're discussing dates...
Other than that, we need to decide a few things:
-what activities we want to have for the students
--------story time @ the library
--------trivia contest
--------and, er, other things
-what room/piece of school we want to reserve for the band people
-where we want to donate these supposed books to (our VP, Amy, has been emailing those people...)

I think that's about it for now. Good luck on finals everyone!

November 18 Meeting

Today, we had another meeting.
Things Discussed :
-Club Days (Ideas for booth)
-Next month's book (Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray)
-How empty the blog is

We then ventured out into the real world of Ohlone College and asked random people what their favorite book was and tried to recruit.

I realize I've been posting a lot today, but I figured I should ask. Do you like the blog format? Or should we consider a message board instead? Opinions, please. I personally am not a big fan of blogs, but I'm also not very tech-savvy so it was the simpler approach.
What do you think?

Interview with the Vampire

Well, what do you think? What sort of book should we read next? Do we want happy endings? Sad endings? Romance? Sci-fi? Things that give us nightmares? Or things that make us lose sleep to questioning our morals and integrity? Or things that make us lose sleep because we can't stop reading them?
...
I'm starting to feel like all Bibliophiles are also insomniacs. Odd.

We decided to extend the time to read Adverbs and will continue discussion on Tuesday, November 18th at 12-1 in the video conference room.

Hello out there! Thank you for taking an interest in Bibliophiles Anonymous, Ohlone's new book club.
Our first meeting will be from 3:45 to 4:45 on Friday, October 24 in Room 1307, also known as the Video Conference Room in the Library.
At this meeting, we will be deciding what book we want to discuss at the next meeting,so please come with ideas! Also, we will be formalizing club rules and officers.
